With 266 days until the 4th European Games in Istanbul (June 16-27, 2027), the qualification system for table tennis has been officially released. The table tennis competition runs from June 16-22, 2027. The system was jointly approved by the European Olympic Committees (EOC) and the European Table Tennis Union (ETTU).
A record 192 athletes (96 men and 96 women) will compete across three events: men's singles, women's singles, and mixed team. This represents the largest table tennis participation in European Games history, up from 152 athletes in Kraków 2026. The mixed team event marks its debut at the European Games, introducing a new dimension to continental competition.
Sixteen teams will compete in the mixed team event. Twelve qualify directly: the host team (Turkey) and the top 11 NOCs on the European Mixed Team Ranking published on November 6, 2026. The remaining four places will be determined at a qualification tournament in Istanbul from February 9-12, 2027.
Each mixed team comprises three men and three women, plus one reserve per gender. The European Mixed Team Ranking combines each association's best-placed men's and women's singles players, its positions in the European team rankings, and its best men's, women's, and mixed doubles results from the most recent European Individual Championships.
Each singles event features 64 players. NOCs with qualified mixed teams receive two places per gender, allocated to their two highest-ranked players on the ETTU European Singles Ranking as of April 9, 2027. An additional 31 places per gender go to the best-ranked players not yet qualified, with a maximum of two per NOC. One universality place per gender will be allocated jointly by the EOC and ETTU.
The mixed team gold medallists in Istanbul will earn direct qualification for the Olympic Games Los Angeles 2028 — the most significant prize in European Games table tennis history.
